“I wasn't able to be there for the service appointment, but Ethan and Robert worked directly with my family while I was at work. They quickly diagnosed and fixed our furnace issue, and my wife and elderly mother both commented on how professional, respectful, and easy they were to work with.”
Central air conditioning, or ductless cooling?
Missoula summers have got long enough that air conditioning stopped being optional, and smoke season is its own argument for being able to close the house up. If you have a furnace with usable ductwork, adding central AC is straightforward. If you do not, ductless will cool the rooms you care about without building duct runs to do it.
What is included
What the job actually involves
- Central AC matched to your existing furnace and blower
- American Standard condensers and matched evaporator coils
- Ductless cooling where there is no ductwork to use
- Line set run and the condenser set on a level pad
- Existing ductwork checked for the airflow the coil needs
- Electrical disconnect and whip installed to code
- Condensate drain routed and trapped correctly
- Charge weighed in and verified, then the system commissioned
The part that matters
A coil is only as good as the air across it
An air conditioner and a furnace have to be matched. Drop an oversized coil onto a blower that cannot move air through it and you get poor dehumidification, short cycling and a system that ices up. We check what your existing equipment can actually do before we select anything.
Central air or ductless
If you already have a furnace with ductwork in reasonable shape, central AC is usually the simpler and lower-cost route. The evaporator coil sits on top of the furnace, the condenser goes outside, and the air distribution is already there.
If you have no ductwork, or ductwork that is undersized enough to be the actual problem, ductless is almost always the better answer than building duct runs from scratch. It also gives you heating, which straight AC does not.
There is a middle case worth knowing about: houses with ducts that technically work but cannot move enough air for a modern coil. In that situation the honest quote includes duct modifications, and a quote that leaves them out is not a better price, it is just incomplete.
Smoke season
Western Montana summers now come with stretches where the air outside is genuinely bad, and the practical answer is to shut the house up and run the air conditioning rather than opening windows at night to cool it down.
That changes what your system is being asked to do. It is running more hours, and filtration matters more than it used to. It is worth talking about the filter setup at the same time as the equipment, because a better filter also raises static pressure and the blower has to be able to handle it.
